Gustavo Minas was born in Cássia, Brazil, in 1981. He studied journalism and photographic language with Carlos Moreira and attended workshops with Magnum photographers Gueorgui Pinkhassov (2016) and Nikos Economopoulos (2019). In 2017, his series “Rodoviária” won the Pictures of the Year Latin America (POY Latam) award in the “Future of Cities” category, and was exhibited in Montevideo (2018) and at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2021).

 

He published his first book, Maximum Shadow Minimal Light, in 2019, accompanied by a solo exhibition at the Freelens Gallery in Hamburg, Germany. In 2022, he exhibited his project Liquid Cities at Galeria Fiesp in São Paulo. The same project was a finalist for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2023 and was published as a book by the Italian publisher Eyeshot in 2024. In 2025, he was once again a POY Latam winner with the series Festa do Império Kalunga in the “Daily Life” category.
